Rosie O’Donnell Discusses Trump’s Election Win and Her Move to Ireland
On a recent episode of “The Late Late Show” with Patrick Kielty, Rosie O’Donnell shared her thoughts on the 2024 election while joining the show from her new home in Ireland. O’Donnell raised intriguing questions regarding the circumstances surrounding Donald Trump’s election victory, hinting at the potential influence of prominent tech figure Elon Musk, whom she described as someone who “owns and runs the internet.”
O’Donnell remarked, “It’s unusual that for the first time in American history, a president has claimed victory in every swing state, especially when his closest ally and significant donor is a major player in the online landscape.” She emphasized her belief that these factors warranted deeper investigation, suggesting a need to understand whether the outcomes reflected an anomaly or were indicative of broader issues at play on election night—particularly as Vice President Kamala Harris drew large crowds in her support, contrasting Trump’s ability to do the same.
“As an American who believes in democracy, I find it necessary to explore all factors contributing to this situation in our country,” O’Donnell added, expressing her hope for accountability and transparency in the electoral process.
This appearance marked O’Donnell’s first on Irish television following her relocation. Her comments hinted at her views on Musk’s ownership of platforms like X and Starlink, and they may reflect her long-standing adversarial relationship with Trump, characterized by a back-and-forth exchange of barbs over the years.
O’Donnell documented her move to Ireland in a heartfelt TikTok video, stating, “It has been difficult to witness the political landscape in America, and the personal toll it takes is significant.” She underscored her desire to see equality for all citizens in the U.S. before considering a return. Her 12-year-old daughter has also relocated with her.
Despite residing outside the United States, O’Donnell encouraged American citizens to actively engage in the democratic process. “It is vital for everyone to raise their voices, protest, and insist on adherence to the Constitution rather than submitting to authoritarianism or cruelty in governance,” she asserted.
She concluded with advice for those remaining in the U.S., urging them to “protect your sanity as much as possible and avoid becoming overwhelmed by the surrounding chaos,” acknowledging the challenges of remaining grounded amid such turmoil.
