The Unique Parenting Approach of Rumer Willis
The Willis-Moore family is well-known for its strong bonds, and Rumer Willis recently shed light on a distinctive practice that enhances their connection. During a recent episode of Zoe Winkler Reinis’s podcast, “What in the Winkler,” Rumer, the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, revealed that she continues to co-sleep with her infant daughter, Louetta, whom she shares with her former partner, Derek Richard Thomas. Rumer compared this arrangement to sleeping in the same bed as her mother.
“Honestly, I hope Lou will, like, still sleep in bed with me when she’s my age,” Rumer shared, expressing her affection for this intimate family routine. “I still sleep in bed with my mom, and I don’t think it’s weird,” she added without hesitation.
This closeness extends beyond just Rumer and her daughter; it includes her siblings, Tallulah and Scout, with whom she still enjoys baths. “And that’s just the kind of house that I grew up in,” Rumer explained. “People might think that that’s crazy and weird, but I don’t.”
Rumer also drew parallels between human parenting practices and those of animals, stating, “Imagine if you took a baby gorilla or a dog when it was two weeks old or three months old and had it sleep in a different room than its mom. Everyone would look at you like you were crazy.” She went on to criticize societal expectations that insist children should learn to sleep independently at a young age, arguing that it is unrealistic given their developmental needs.
“By the way, we as adults don’t even know how to self-soothe,” Rumer pointed out. “We call a friend. People drink wine, people do drugs, people eat an entire tub of ice cream.” This insight opens a dialogue about the emotional needs of both children and adults, highlighting a universal dependency on connection.
Rumer’s relationship with her father, Bruce Willis, is also a focal point of her family narrative. Bruce, who has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, receives unwavering support from his family during this challenging time.
Rumer emphasized the unity and strength of the family dynamic, stating, “I think again because my family, we’re all so close, I think what’s so beautiful is the way that we rally around each other is so lovely because we really are a unit,” during an interview with Loose Women.
The Willis family exemplifies a unique approach to parenting and support that continues to resonate with many, challenging conventional norms and embracing emotional sincerity.
