The drag community is mourning the loss of Bianca Castro-Arabejo, known to many as Jiggly Caliente, who has passed away at the age of 44. Her family announced the news, revealing that she died following complications from a severe infection that required the amputation of part of her leg.
Jiggly gained prominence as a contestant on the fourth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and she also made her mark as a judge on the Filipino version of the show, in addition to her role in the acclaimed series Pose. Her unique artistry and vibrant personality captivated audiences both on and off-screen.
In a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram, her family expressed their deep sorrow over her passing, saying, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Bianca Castro-Arabejo, known to the world and cherished by many as Jiggly Caliente.” They confirmed that she died in the early hours of Sunday, surrounded by her loved ones.
The tribute from her family highlighted her “infectious energy, fierce wit, and unwavering authenticity.” They noted that Jiggly leaves behind a legacy filled with “love, courage, and light,” stating, “She touched countless lives through her artistry, activism, and the genuine connection she fostered with fans around the world.” Their message captured the enduring impact she had during her life.
As news of her death spread, fellow drag artists and fans paid tribute to Jiggly’s influence and kindness. Laganja Estranja, known for her appearance on the sixth season of the U.S. version of the show, remembered her as a “kind, caring soul.” Baga Chipz, a star from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, described her as “one of the kindest, sweetest souls I’ve ever met.” Cheryl The Queen, also a competitor on the UK version, shared her sentiments, affirming, “We will love you forever and always, Jiggly.”
