Rupert Grint has announced the arrival of his second child with partner Georgia Groome, showcasing a name as charming as their first.
A Sweet Celebration
On April 27, Grint shared the delightful news via Instagram. He introduced their new family member with a caption reading, “‘Secret Child Slightly Revealed,’” alongside a heartwarming photo of the baby dressed in a cable-knit cardigan and a onesie featuring her name: Goldie.
Goldie’s full name is Goldie G. Grint, and her proud father described her as a “10/10 baby (so far).” The Harry Potter star expressed gratitude towards OBGYN Dr. Alex Digesu for “always delivering,” a playful nod to both the literal and metaphorical aspects of parenthood.
Inside Grint’s Family Life
The couple welcomed their first child, Wednesday, in 2020, choosing that name long before it became associated with the Netflix series. Grint shared that while he was initially hesitant to attribute the name to The Addams Family, it was indeed inspired by that classic character. “I’ve always loved the name. It’s a good name, it’s kind of punchy,” he noted in an interview with Jimmy Fallon.
He also shared that Wednesday’s middle initial, which matches Goldie’s, pays tribute to Hollywood traditions. “We loved the idea of an initial like Samuel L. Jackson, Michael J. Fox — that kind of speaking the initial,” Grint elaborated.
As for Goldie, while her personality is yet to unfold, her sister is already showing a fondness for Harry Potter merchandise. Grint humorously mentioned on The Tonight Show that Wednesday possesses a wand and a PEZ dispenser featuring his likeness, although they do not give her candy.
In a conversation with Bustle, Grint reflected on how fatherhood has profoundly impacted him. He cited Wednesday’s fascination with the moon, saying, “I like the moon, but I’ve never really paid it much attention. It’s an amazing thing. She’s taught me to appreciate everything again.”
The actor expressed that becoming a father to Wednesday has brought him a sense of relaxation, allowing him to revel in his role and enjoy “doing dad things.”
Grint and Groome, who starred together in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, maintain a low-key lifestyle while celebrating over a decade together. “It’s a very natural thing — we’re just best friends,” he remarked in a 2021 interview with Glamour. “We’re kind of the same person; we think the same way. That’s always made it work — that’s why it’s lasted.”
