Russo Brothers Tackle Spoiler Management for Upcoming Avengers Films

Renowned for their secretive approach, the Russo brothers, who directed blockbuster hits like Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, are gearing up for another highly anticipated chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The duo is currently in the midst of preparations for Avengers: Doomsday, the first of two major entries slated for the franchise, and they aim to keep this production heavily cloaked in secrecy.

In a recent conversation with Collider, Anthony and Joe Russo disclosed that filming for Avengers: Doomsday will commence in April, marking the start of a substantial six-month shooting schedule. Recognizing the intense scrutiny their productions face, the brothers have devised strategies to mitigate potential leaks, particularly from paparazzi eager to capture footage or images from the set.

“We’re pretty good about shutting that down,” Joe remarked, with Anthony adding that they’ve developed a plan aimed at effectively managing the situation. Joe emphasized their desire to prevent unauthorized photographs, indicating that filming locations are selected with discretion in mind. While soundstages provide a secure environment for production, outdoor sites are also carefully chosen to ensure minimal exposure to onlookers.

Marvel Studios Has Fought a Losing Battle With Spoilers in the Past

Despite the Russo brothers’ efforts, preserving the confidentiality of Marvel’s projects has proven to be a significant challenge. The studio has experienced a series of leaks, including script details and set photographs, that have underscored the difficulty of keeping information under wraps. A recent example involved Deadpool & Wolverine, where unauthorized images compromised key surprises, prompting Ryan Reynolds and co-star Hugh Jackman to appeal to fans and media for restraint in sharing spoilers.

In his plea, Reynolds noted, “Here’s hoping some of the websites and social channels hold back showing images before they’re ready. The film is built for audience joy – and our highest hope is to preserve as much of that magic as possible for the finished film and the big screen.” He acknowledged that while the issue of spoilers may not carry significant weight in the grand scheme, it remains a challenge they face.

Set to be the first installment in a two-part finale for the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, followed closely by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. Both films are expected to deliver extensive runtimes filled with surprises and revelations, leaving fans eager for the cinematic experiences that await them.
