Leicester City Appoints Ruud van Nistelrooy as New Manager
In a significant move, Leicester City has introduced former PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new head coach. The announcement comes on the heels of the dismissal of Steve Cooper, who parted ways with the club after a challenging spell of just 12 matches in the Premier League.
Van Nistelrooy has inked a contract that will see him at the King Power Stadium until June 2027. The 48-year-old expressed his enthusiasm about this new chapter, stating, “I’m proud, I’m excited.” He highlighted the positive feedback he received about Leicester City from various sources, noting the strong community spirit and the impressive recent history of the club.
He conveyed his eagerness to commence his role and familiarize himself with the team, stating, “I’m excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the football club.”
Currently, Leicester City is positioned 16th in the Premier League standings, sitting precariously just one point above the relegation zone. They are set to face Brentford this Saturday in a critical match. Until van Nistelrooy assumes his position, first-team coach Ben Dawson will manage the upcoming fixture.
Van Nistelrooy will make his managerial debut with Leicester on December 3 when the team hosts West Ham. His recent experience includes a brief period as interim head coach at Manchester United, where he oversaw a series of successful matches that included two victories against Leicester.
This appointment marks an important transition for Leicester City as they seek to stabilize their performance and build momentum in the Premier League under new leadership.
