Renowned game designer Masahiro Sakurai, the visionary behind the Super Smash Bros series, is already facing an influx of requests for fighters in the upcoming Smash 6, following his brief comment on a recent Nintendo Direct announcement about the Switch 2.
Nintendo recently announced that a special Direct presentation focused on the Switch 2 will take place on April 2, 2025, which is highly anticipated for unveiling further details about the console and its launch titles.
While the specifics regarding the games set to be revealed remain largely under wraps, fans are particularly eager for updates about the next installment of the Super Smash Bros series—rumored to be a project Sakurai has come out of retirement to develop.
Uncertainty looms over whether Smash 6 will be a fresh entry or an enhanced iteration of Smash Ultimate, similar to how Mario Kart 8 was upgraded to Deluxe status. Nevertheless, that hasn’t deterred fans from bombarding Sakurai with character requests.
Following the announcement of the Direct, Sakurai shared a simple, yet enigmatic tweet: “Wow.” This brief reaction sparked a wave of speculation and excitement among the community regarding Smash 6.
Fans plead for Sakurai to add their favorite characters to Smash 6
Immediately after Sakurai’s tweet, fans interpreted it as a hint toward the imminent arrival of Smash 6 and quickly began to call upon him to incorporate their beloved video game characters into the game.
One user expressed: “I think Fahkumram would be a great character to have another Tekken representative in Smash Bros if you are deciding who to include from that franchise.”
Another user insisted, “It’s time Mister Sakurai,” accompanying their message with a list filled with characters, including Shadow the Hedgehog and Waluigi.
One passionate fan exclaimed, “Give them one more chance Sakurai!” while sharing images of Geno from Super Mario RPG and Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.
Other names frequently mentioned in the request frenzy include Dante, Master Chief, Crash Bandicoot, and Ryu from Ninja Gaiden; however, Sakurai has yet to respond to any of the pitches.
