Besides Salman Khan and Govinda, the David Dhawan directorial venture also starred Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta.
Salman and Govinda in Partner.
The film Partner, featuring Salman Khan and Govinda, resonated deeply with audiences at the time of its release, establishing itself as a significant box office success. Despite Govinda’s long-standing stardom, there was a notable disparity in their earnings, with Salman receiving Rs 10 crore, while Govinda earned Rs 5 crore. Recently, writer Alok Upadhyaya shared insights regarding the actors’ pay during the production of the song “Soni De Nakhre.”
“David Dhawan exemplifies the quintessential commercial filmmaker. While on set, he mentally juggles various elements like editing and overall direction,” Alok noted in an interview with Lightscameramasti. “His ultimate goal was to enhance the film’s commercial viability.”
He recounted an incident: “During the filming of the song, the choreographer planned for a few long shots. David sahab approached me, stating, ‘One actor is charging Rs 10 crore, the other Rs 5 crore — that’s Rs 15 crore standing there, and only their legs are being shown. We need close-ups of both Govinda and Salman.’”
Alok further described Dhawan’s urgency, recalling him summoning the choreographer. He expressed concern over the shoot’s direction, emphasizing, “You’re capturing a Rs 50 flower pot while ignoring the Rs 15 crore worth of talent. My film won’t prosper with this approach. Get close-ups of those two actors.”
In addition to Salman and Govinda, the film also featured Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta, though their compensation details remain undisclosed. Released in 2010, Partner was inspired by the Hollywood movie Hitch, which centered around a love guru helping a client win over his romantic interest while simultaneously navigating his own relationships.
