Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu Addresses the Ongoing Stigma Surrounding Menstruation
Samantha Ruth Prabhu has shed light on the persistent stigma associated with menstruation, emphasizing that discussions about periods are frequently greeted with silence and shame.
In a recent conversation, Samantha articulated her frustration regarding the taboo nature of menstruation. Speaking to IANS, she noted, “Despite the progress we’ve made as women, conversations surrounding periods often remain hushed and shrouded in shame.”
During an insightful episode of her podcast, Take20, Samantha engaged with nutritionist Rashi Chowdhary to delve into topics such as menstrual cycles, cycle syncing, endometriosis, and the various health challenges that women commonly encounter but seldom discuss openly.
Reflecting on her conversation, Samantha emphasized the importance of dismantling these outdated taboos, stating, “Speaking with Rashi highlighted how vital it is to address these long-standing misconceptions. Our menstrual cycles are incredibly powerful and fundamentally life-affirming. They should never be a source of embarrassment or dismissal.”
Samantha also shared personal insights about her journey towards understanding her own body and the complexities faced by women, especially those in the public eye, while managing challenges like endometriosis.
Within the podcast episode, she remarked, “The impact of the menstrual cycle on our mental and physical well-being is something we should continually explore as we navigate through life. Rashi’s extensive knowledge made for a productive discussion, and I’m grateful that we could engage in a meaningful dialogue aimed at recognizing and utilizing the strength we possess as women.”
On the cinematic front, Samantha has recently ventured into production with her debut film, ‘Subham.’ On April 7, she shared a teaser for the film with her followers, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the collaborative effort that brought the project to life.

The film, written by Vasanth Mariganti, is directed by Praveen Kandregula, who previously collaborated with Mariganti on the well-received drama “Cinema Bandi.”
