Samay Raina expresses regret over controversial comments regarding India’s Got Latent
Comedian Samay Raina and influencer Ranveer Allahbadia, known as Beerbiceps, are currently under scrutiny following recent inflammatory comments made during a broadcast of India’s Got Latent. This week, Raina took steps to address the backlash by appearing before the Maharashtra Cyber Police in Navi Mumbai after being summoned for questioning.
In his comments to the police, Raina conveyed his deep remorse for his statements, which he claims were made impulsively. He stated, “I feel deep regret for what I said. It happened in the flow of the show, and I had no intention of saying it.” He went on to acknowledge the seriousness of his words, indicating, “I realize that what I said was wrong.” This acknowledgment reflects an understanding of the broader implications of such remarks, especially in the context of the ongoing discussions about respect and responsibility in public discourse.
Raina also noted that the controversy had negatively impacted his mental health and highlighted that his planned tour in Canada was disrupted due to the ongoing situation. He pledged to approach his public engagements with greater sensitivity in the future.
The Maharashtra Cyber Police declined Raina’s initial request to provide his statement through video conferencing, insisting instead on his physical presence for the investigation, which is being conducted alongside the Mumbai Police.

The uproar began when Ranveer Allahbadia made a series of inappropriate comments directed at a contestant during the show, including crude inquiries about private matters and an offensive proposition involving a substantial sum of money. Additionally, he posed a shocking hypothetical scenario that raised eyebrows and ignited further outrage online.
This incident triggered a wave of public condemnation, resulting in multiple filed First Information Reports (FIRs) and attracting the attention of the Supreme Court, which has expressed concern about the implications of such conduct. The court remarked on the attitude of some in the younger generation, suggesting a misguided sense of intelligence regarding crucial social norms.
Justice Surya Kant, during a recent hearing, emphasized the importance of balancing free speech with responsibility, stating, “There are some people who are writing articles on free speech etc. We know how to handle them also. Every fundamental right is followed by duty. There are restrictions also.” This statement underscores the ongoing conversation about accountability and the potential consequences of actions in the public eye.
