What you need to know
Samsung’s plans for its foldable smartphone lineup have evolved, with the anticipated Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and a new tri-fold device now expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025, rather than mid-2025 as initially suggested. The company is prioritizing its flagship models first, and production of panels for both the Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 has already commenced this month. Following the flagships, attention will shift to the FE and tri-fold models.
Recent reports indicate a shift in Samsung’s foldable strategy, revealing that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and the innovative tri-fold variant will see their release pushed back. Initially slated for a mid-2025 debut alongside the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, delays have created a new timeline for these devices.
The expected expansion of Samsung’s foldable range this year is generating significant interest. While the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 are set to enhance the existing features of their predecessors, the introduction of a tri-fold phone akin to Huawei’s Mate X series and a budget-friendly flip phone promises to diversify the market offerings.
This strategy not only broadens Samsung’s product lineup but also intensifies competition, positioning the brand to cater to a wider audience.

According to a report from The Bell, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and the new tri-fold phone are now expected to launch in Q4 2025 (as reported by Notebookcheck). This adjustment means that fans of the more budget-friendly Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will have to wait longer than initially expected.
Flagships first
Notably, the same report confirms that Samsung has commenced production of the panels for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 this month. While the precise reasons behind the delay are unclear, it appears Samsung is dedicating efforts to ensure the flagship models are prioritized for release.
Once these flagship devices gain traction, the company is expected to pivot towards finalizing the more economical FE model and the new tri-fold iteration.
Previously, speculation suggested the Flip FE would arrive shortly after the flagship Flip 7, but this revised timeline provides a clearer outline, eliminating previous ambiguities about when the budget foldable would become available.
Budget cuts (literally)
Insights from earlier leaks offer a glimpse into the anticipated design of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. It appears the device will maintain a similar clamshell style to its current line of Z Flip models.
However, the FE version is likely to forgo the larger external display that the flagship Z Flip 7 is expected to feature, opting instead for a smaller external screen. This design choice aligns with its more accessible price point.
In terms of hardware capabilities, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is rumored to include either the Exynos 2500 or Exynos 2400 processor, while the flagship Z Flip 7 is anticipated to leverage the more advanced Snapdragon 8 Elite chip for enhanced performance.
