What you need to know

Samsung is set to introduce the Galaxy A56 5G at a price of $500 later this year, featuring an Exynos 1580 chipset. Additionally, the Galaxy A36 5G and Galaxy A26 5G will be released this month for $400 and $300, respectively. All three new models will incorporate what Samsung refers to as “Awesome Intelligence,” which includes a variety of AI functionalities aimed at enhancing user experience within the A-series.

On March 1, Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy A26 5G, Galaxy A36 5G, and Galaxy A56 5G following a series of rumors and leaks. The Galaxy A56 5G is scheduled to launch later in the year with a retail price of $499.99. Conversely, the Galaxy A36 5G and Galaxy A26 5G are expected to arrive on shelves starting March 26 and March 28, respectively.

In addition to advances in hardware, these A-series smartphones come equipped with significant software enhancements. They will all run on One UI 7, based on Android 15, and Samsung promises six years of complete OS upgrades for these devices, a notable first for its budget lineup.

Samsung is also introducing “Awesome Intelligence,” which is a simplified version of its Galaxy AI. This includes various features, such as Best Face functionality on the Galaxy A56 5G, along with improved Object Eraser and Circle to Search options across all models.

Moreover, a new feature called “Filters” has been introduced, which takes inspiration from Apple’s Photographic Styles. It enables users to create custom filters by extracting colors and tones from their existing images, providing a unique and personalized flair based on individual preferences.

It is worth noting that Samsung did not release the Galaxy A55 5G in the United States last year, and there are questions about whether the Galaxy A56 5G will follow suit. If it does launch in the U.S., it will directly compete with higher-end models such as the OnePlus 13R and the anticipated Google Pixel 9a, both priced around $500. With features like a 5,000mAh battery, Exynos 1580 chipset, and 8GB of RAM, the Galaxy A56 5G may put pressure on its competitors. Its camera system includes a triple-lens setup with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro camera.

The next option in the A-series is the Galaxy A36 5G, which employs the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor. It offers 6GB of RAM and a 5,000mAh battery, alongside a camera array that features a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro lens. This model is priced at $399.99 and is available in three colors: Awesome Black, Awesome Lavender, and Awesome Lime (exclusive to Best Buy).

The most budget-friendly offering, aside from the already launched Galaxy A16 5G, is the Galaxy A26 5G, retailing for $299.99. This model is only available in black and includes a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro camera.

Samsung’s update to its A-series lineup brings notable uniformity across all three models—the Galaxy A26 5G, Galaxy A36 5G, and Galaxy A56 5G. Each device is equipped with a robust 5,000mAh battery, 128GB of storage, and IP67-rated dust and water resistance. Additionally, this year’s Galaxy A36 5G and Galaxy A56 5G feature larger display screens, with all models showcasing a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel that supports a 120Hz refresh rate.

Consumers can expect to purchase the Galaxy A36 5G and Galaxy A26 5G later this month, while the availability date for the Galaxy A56 5G remains to be determined.
