Samsung’s Upcoming Tri-Fold Device: Limited Release on the Horizon
Samsung’s anticipated tri-fold smartphone, rumored to be named the Galaxy G Fold, has been a hot topic in technology circles this year. Recent developments suggest that the company is gearing up for a launch in late 2025. However, this excitement is tempered by the expectation that the device may only be available in two markets.
This situation echoes the previous release of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which was restricted to consumers in Korea and China last year. These two countries are poised to be the sole markets for the upcoming tri-fold smartphone as well.
Samsung tri-fold smartphone listed in GSM Association database
Insights from the GSM Association’s database reveal that the tri-fold device is identified by the model numbers SM-F968N and SM-F9680. The “N” designation signifies that this model is intended for the South Korean market, while the “0” suffix indicates that the device will be sold in China.
Additionally, the smartphone is referred to by the codename Q7M, which appears in the database as its unofficial market name. This could have been a strategic move by Samsung to safeguard the actual name of the device and prevent leaks, although speculation about the Galaxy G Fold persists.
Typically, Samsung’s devices make their way into the GSM Association’s database approximately six to seven months prior to their public release. If this pattern holds true, the tri-fold smartphone could debut around October 2025. However, plans are not finalized, as the company reportedly intends to limit production, which accounts for the narrow availability in just two regions.
