Sandbox VR Introduces Deadwood Phobia: A New Chapter in Immersive Horror Gaming
Sandbox VR, a leader in virtual reality entertainment with 50 locations worldwide, has announced the launch of Deadwood Phobia, a sequel to their highly successful attraction, Deadwood Valley. This latest title aims to build on the momentum from Deadwood Valley, which has garnered impressive sales figures of $52 million since its summer 2022 release.
Developed internally by Sandbox VR’s game studio, Deadwood Phobia is the third installment in the Deadwood zombie franchise. Players will again form teams, donning VR headsets to confront waves of zombies with plastic weaponry. The cost for an immersive experience ranges from approximately $50 to $55, depending on peak times, and currently attracts over 100,000 players each month.
Deadwood Phobia is set to launch on October 16, 2024, across Sandbox VR venues globally, with ticket sales beginning on October 1, 2024.
A Team of Acclaimed Developers
The new title’s direction comes from Michael Hampden, previously a lead designer on the prestigious Assassin’s Creed series. The development team includes veterans who have previously contributed to major titles such as Far Cry 6, Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher series, and Battlefield 2142, ensuring a rich pedigree behind the project.
Deadwood Phobia continues the narrative established in Deadwood Valley, which quickly gained acclaim and ticket sales, surpassing one million sold tickets. The game combines elements of psychological horror with engaging zombie combat mechanics.
An Exploration of Fear
In this new installment, players navigate through their deepest fears, where perception is unreliable. Entering a forsaken medical facility, they face waves of enemies while making critical survival decisions. Players will have access to a variety of weapons, enhancing their chances against formidable bosses that challenge their mental fortitude. The game offers multiple endings, ensuring a fresh experience each playthrough.
According to Sandbox VR CEO Steve Zhao, the objective is to create engaging virtual worlds that promote cooperation and social interaction. “Deadwood Phobia is our first venture into psychological horror, adding layers of complexity to the popular narrative and delivering unique challenges that encourage players to confront their fears,” he shared in a statement.
Michael Hampden added that the concept of examining common phobias and heightening them through innovative VR technology was central to the game’s design. He stated, “With Deadwood Phobia, each player’s unique fears contribute to an experience that varies dramatically across different participants.”
Expansion of Sandbox VR
Sandbox VR continues to scale its operations globally, currently boasting over 100,000 monthly players and a dynamic franchising model. Alongside Deadwood Phobia, guests can experience nine exclusive titles produced by their in-house team, including popular experiences like Squid Game Virtuals, Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire, and Curse of Davy Jones.
As the demand for immersive virtual experiences grows, Sandbox VR is positioning itself at the forefront of the gaming landscape, inviting players to engage with their offerings while encouraging them to face their phobias in a thrilling new way.
