Sanders Critiques Law Firms Aligning with Trump
During a recent interview on CBS News, Senator Bernie Sanders expressed strong disapproval of law firms entering agreements with President Donald Trump, labeling their actions as a sign of moral weakness.
When CBS News reporter Robert Costa inquired about these law firms cuttings deals with the administration, Sanders did not hold back. “Absolute cowardice,” he stated, highlighting his belief that these firms are compromising their integrity for financial gain.
The senator elaborated on his concerns, suggesting that these firms are willing to sacrifice their principles to maintain profitable relationships in Washington. “They’re going to sell out their souls to Donald Trump, in order to continue to be able to make money here,” he remarked.
In recent developments, multiple law firms have indeed formed partnerships with the Trump administration, a move that comes amidst threats from the administration regarding security clearances and government contracts. This pressure includes a review process that could result in sanctions against attorneys who engage in what the administration labels as “vexatious” lawsuits.
Earlier this week, President Trump announced a significant agreement with Milbank LLP, a prominent law firm. The president shared that Milbank has committed to providing at least $100 million in pro bono legal services to support various initiatives during his presidency.
Trump emphasized that Milbank will continue to offer representation to clients from politically marginalized groups, stating that their involvement ensures that such groups, along with government officials and advisors who have historically lacked access to major law firms, receive adequate legal support.
Among the firms aligning with the Trump administration is the law firm connected to former second gentleman Doug Emhoff, which has also engaged in similar agreements.
