Sandy Ryan and Mikaela Mayer faced off with palpable intensity during their final weigh-in ahead of the anticipated WBO welterweight title rematch, set to unfold in Las Vegas. The event will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Ryan, representing Britain, registered a weight of 145.5 pounds. In contrast, Mayer, a seasoned four-division world champion, came in slightly heavier at 146 pounds.
Ryan is eager to overturn a previous majority decision loss to Mayer, which she suffered last September in New York. The rematch is scheduled to take place early Sunday morning, available to viewers on Sky Sports Action.
“She claims I’m scared, but I’ve prepared extensively for this re-match right after our last encounter,” stated Ryan. “I’ve had the longest training camp, and I’m fully prepared. A knockout would be great if it happens, but my main goal is to secure a win by any means necessary.”
Recent tensions between the two fighters were highlighted by a controversial incident involving a paint attack and their respective changes in coaching teams, revealing deeper discord.
Mayer: Seeking to Elevate Her Game
When questioned about her remarks to Ryan during the face-off, Mayer confidently replied: “And still.” She elaborated, saying, “My focus is on executing the game plan I’ve been honing in training. Since our last bout, I’ve made significant adjustments and feel I’ve ascended to a new level.”
“I’m going to adhere closely to the strategies laid out by my revamped corner and aim to present the best version of myself,” she added.
Regarding her approach to the fight, Mayer shared her intent for an unrelenting pace: “I plan to maintain an intense work rate from the very first round and keep pressing all the way to the final tenth round.”
Don’t miss the rematch between Mikaela Mayer and Sandy Ryan, live on Sky Sports Action, starting at midnight on Sunday.
