Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Plans for Rowdy Rathore 2 Under Scrutiny
Earlier today, speculation emerged regarding Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s involvement in the production of Rowdy Rathore 2, suggesting that the filmmaker would begin work on the sequel next year.
Current Projects and Collaborations
Bhansali, known for his intricate storytelling and lavish production styles, recently directed Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazar. The fresh rumors indicate that he has enlisted Kannada director Prem, who is presently occupied with his pan-Indian project, KD – The Devil. The original Rowdy Rathore, which featured Akshay Kumar, was released in 2012 and helmed by Prabhu Deva. Reports claim that the script for the sequel is finalized and casting is expected to commence in the summer of next year.
Hearing from the Source
However, News18 Showsha has learned from a reliable source that the reality of the situation is quite different. The source has indicated that while the news surrounding Rowdy Rathore 2 is generating significant media interest, no concrete progress has been made at the production house. The source remarked, “The news about Rowdy Rathore 2 is exciting enough to make rounds in the media, but no such development has happened at the production house’s end.”
Direction and Casting Uncertainty
Adding to the uncertainty, the same source revealed that a director for the project has not yet been confirmed. Although several acclaimed directors have expressed their desire to be part of what is expected to be a major cinematic event, there has been no advancement towards that goal. Previously, there were rumors that Anees Bazmee might take over directorial duties from Prabhu Deva.
Current Status of Talks
Anees Bazmee himself acknowledged that the film remains in its early stages of development. In an exclusive conversation, he stated, “Talks are going on. When it’s the right time to announce, we will.” Furthermore, there has been ongoing debate about whether Rowdy Rathore 2 will be a direct sequel or a spiritual continuation of the 2012 film that had co-star Sonakshi Sinha.
Possible Casting Scenarios
According to earlier reports, there was speculation regarding Akshay Kumar’s return for the sequel. However, the details remain unclear, with sources commenting, “We shall know that at the right time. It could be Akshay Kumar, a new hero, or who knows, possibly a dual-hero film.”
In the meantime, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is focused on his current project, Love & War, featuring stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal. Notably, he recently announced plans for Heeramandi 2 as well.
