Enjoying Din Tai Fung on EVA Air: A Culinary Journey in the Skies

Securing a table at the world-renowned Din Tai Fung can be quite the endeavor, whether it’s waiting outside the bustling Xinsheng Branch in Taipei or trying to grab a spot at the popular Santa Clara location. For those seeking the ultimate convenience, there’s an easier route: enjoying Din Tai Fung’s exquisite flavors at 30,000 feet aboard EVA Air.

The collaboration between Din Tai Fung and EVA Air boasts a rich history, dating back over twenty years to February 10, 2002, when Din Tai Fung’s culinary delights first graced the airline’s in-flight menu. Recently, this unique offering gained wider attention when EVA Air showcased a delightful Reel featuring San Francisco-based creator Sandy Burrell on its North American Instagram account. The clip highlights Burrell savoring the Noodles with House Special Spicy Shrimp and Pork Wontons while traveling from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) to San Francisco (SFO).

The scrumptious offerings from Din Tai Fung are accessible to EVA Air passengers flying in the business class cabins, known as Royal Laurel Class and Laurel Class, on specific routes. Key destinations include long-haul flights departing from Taipei to Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA), George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), Vancouver (YVR), Los Angeles (LAX) on flight BR16, and San Francisco (BR28).

Additionally, the menu features regional round-trip flights connecting Taipei’s Taoyuan with Japanese locations such as Tokyo-Narita (NRT), New Chitose (CTS), Kansai (KIX), and Fukuoka (FUK), along with services from Taipei’s Songshan Airport (TSA) to Tokyo-Haneda (HND), with the exception of flight BR189.

Onboard dining begins with a choice of hearty soups, including House Steamed Chicken Soup or House Steamed Beef Soup. Din Tai Fung’s signature main dishes include Juicy Pork Xiao Long Bao Soup Dumplings, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, and the aforementioned Noodles with House Special Spicy Shrimp and Pork Wontons. Each main course is served with traditional side offerings such as Spicy Beef Tripe or Shaohsing Wine Marinated Chicken.

For those with a sweet tooth, dessert options include Suzhou-Style Mooncake with Sesame Paste-Filled Mini Buns, available in various flavors. As of October 1, 2023, passengers can also enjoy the new dessert addition: Honey and White Fungus Sweet Soup.

Din Tai Fung has expanded significantly, now boasting over 165 locations across 13 countries. The brand began its journey in a modest cooking oil shop in 1972, where founder Bing-Yi Yang, alongside his wife Pen-Mai Lai, started by selling handmade xiao long bao soup dumplings.

EVA Air, which commenced operations in 1989, has developed a reputation for innovation, notably introducing the premium economy class in 1992—setting a precedent in the aviation industry.
