Schiff Takes Aim at Democrats for Failing to ‘Think Big’ and ‘Act Big’

Democrats Urged to Adopt Bolder Strategies for Voter Engagement

On a recent episode of NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) emphasized the need for the Democratic Party to take more courageous steps in appealing to voters. He articulated a sentiment that his party has often fallen short in terms of “thinking big” and “acting big.”

During the interview, moderator Kristen Welker referenced a pivotal moment from Sen. Cory Booker’s (D-N.J.) record-breaking speech on the Senate floor. Booker had candidly acknowledged that the Democratic Party “has made terrible mistakes and gave a lane to this demagogue,” referring to President Trump, and stressed the need for self-reflection and improvement within the party.

Schiff expressed his agreement with Booker’s assessment, noting that the party’s hesitation to embrace bold actions has hindered their effectiveness. He suggested that Democrats could learn from the approach taken by their Republican counterparts during the Trump administration.

“We’ve witnessed how the Trump administration moved the country decisively and rapidly when driven by strong convictions and bold actions,” Schiff observed, highlighting the potentially damaging consequences of that boldness, particularly for working families. “Their boldness, however misguided, should serve as a lesson for us.”

He stressed that this should not serve as a justification for Democrats to refrain from rigorously advocating for their own progressive ideas. “It’s essential that we act boldly to propel the country forward,” he continued, asserting that successful outcomes are often rooted in daring strategies.

Pointing to the recent triumph of the Democrats in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, Schiff underscored this victory as a critical motivator for the party. He characterized it as “a real shot in the arm,” indicative of a burgeoning energy and engagement among the electorate.

“The wave of activism we’re witnessing across the nation illustrates that the Democratic Party is beginning to awaken,” Schiff remarked. He commended Booker for helping to galvanize Democratic lawmakers, urging them to recognize the extraordinary political climate they are navigating.

“Conventional methods won’t suffice in countering the current adversities. In addition to our vigorous stands against opposition, we need to aggressively promote our own bold initiatives,” he affirmed.

Booker’s record-setting speech, spanning over 25 hours, was a deliberate act of protest against the policies of the Trump administration. He noted that his lengthy address was partially motivated by the need to respond to calls from constituents for stronger pushback against the Trump agenda.
