Over 100 individuals were evacuated from a high-end residential tower in Buenos Aires, Argentina, following a significant fire that affected multiple floors, according to local emergency services. The incident required substantial firefighting efforts as flames spread through the structure.
Emergency responders reported that 40 people suffered from smoke inhalation, with several others hospitalized during the incident. Fortunately, firefighters managed to control the blaze before it could escalate further.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine how it began. This event unfolded in a 50-story building situated in the affluent neighborhood of Puerto Madero, known for its luxury accommodations and vibrant waterfront.
Alberto Crescenti, the head of Buenos Aires emergency services, informed reporters that the fire had reached as high as the 15th floor of the building. Eyewitness accounts confirmed that shards of glass were falling from windows as residents attempted to escape.
“Fortunately, the evacuation process was executed swiftly, which ensured the safety of the residents,” Crescenti stated. His comments reflect the prompt response of emergency services in managing the crisis.
Firefighter Christian Benitez reassured the public, stating that all residents were confirmed to be safe and that no life-threatening situations were reported in the aftermath.
Among those evacuated was Ornella Gril, a 30-year-old resident, who recounted her experience: “I heard the fire alarm and came downstairs as quickly as I could.” She expressed relief at her safe escape.
Mariano Pavone, a former professional footballer known for his stint with River Plate and Real Betis, also resided in the building. He shared his experience with the Noticias Argentinas news agency: “I saw smoke and went down with my son and my dog. Luckily nothing happened to my flat. I’m anxious for my neighbors. Luckily it was just a scare.”
This incident highlights the importance of fire safety measures in high-rise buildings and the need for residents to remain vigilant in emergency situations.
