Scott Adkins’ ‘Seized’ Finds New Life on Starz
Over the past decade, Scott Adkins has solidified his status as a prominent action star. Yet, many of his films have gone unnoticed due to low-key streaming strategies. One such film is his 2020 action thriller, Seized, which has recently experienced a resurgence on Starz, five years post-release.
Directed by Isaac Florentine, Seized has drawn comparisons to Liam Neeson’s acclaimed thriller, Taken. In the film, Adkins takes on the role of Nero, a retired special forces operative who is forced back into a perilous situation when his son is kidnapped. To secure his child’s release, he embarks on a violent mission to dismantle three dangerous criminal organizations at the behest of a mysterious antagonist. Mario Van Peebles shines as the villain, adding depth to the relentless action that Adkins is known for, particularly through the film’s intense combat sequences.
‘Seized’ Has Found New Success on Starz
Upon its initial release in 2020, Seized garnered mixed reviews. Critics who focused on it were divided, while fans of Adkins typically celebrated his performance in another gritty revenge flick. However, the film’s predictable plot proved to be its Achilles’ heel, causing it to fade from the limelight in a saturated action genre.
Now, five years later, Seized has found renewed interest on streaming platforms. Although it briefly appeared on services like Netflix, it has gained substantial traction on Starz, climbing to the number two position on the platform’s movie chart.
Adkins has long been a staple for action movie aficionados, often drawing comparisons to luminaries such as Neeson, Frank Grillo, and icons like Jean-Claude Van Damme and Sylvester Stallone. He continues to deliver a steady stream of action films, demonstrating both stamina and versatility. Notably, Adkins has also participated in significant franchises like John Wick, Universal Soldier, and has made appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Fans of Adkins can look forward to more cinematic endeavors, as he has already released two films this year: Day of Reckoning, featuring Billy Zane, and the World War II film Prisoner of War. Additionally, he has four more projects slated for release by the end of 2025, which includes his role in the upcoming film RIP alongside Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, as well as Reckless, co-starring Vinnie Jones.
