Manchester United Negotiates Potential Departures and Incomings
Manchester United has reached an agreement with Napoli for the transfer of Scott McTominay, valued at £25.4 million (€30 million). This move could facilitate the club’s efforts to secure Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
The proposed deal for McTominay includes a notable sell-on clause, but it hinges on him reaching personal terms with Napoli’s management. As an academy product, McTominay has been a stalwart for United, netting 29 goals in 255 appearances. His recent performance included coming off the bench in the club’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton, where he played for the last 11 minutes.
Entering the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, McTominay is subject to United’s option of a 12-month extension. Although the pursuit of Ugarte is unlikely to be entirely contingent on McTominay’s exit, the sale would simplify the process substantially.
Discussions between United and PSG regarding Ugarte are ongoing. Both clubs favor a permanent transfer instead of a loan, yet a loan with an obligation to buy remains a possible framework for the deal.
Napoli’s Transfer Ambitions
In addition to McTominay, Napoli is also interested in acquiring his Scotland teammate, Billy Gilmour, currently at Brighton. Napoli aims to finalize both player transfers, but funding one of the deals may require them to offload a player.
Furthermore, Napoli is looking to recruit Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, with a possible deal that could involve Victor Osimhen moving in the opposite direction.
Juventus Approaches United for Sancho
Meanwhile, Juventus, a rival in Serie A, is in negotiations with United regarding a potential loan for forward Jadon Sancho. While Juventus prefers a loan arrangement, Manchester United is leaning towards either a permanent transfer or a loan that includes a purchase obligation. However, both sides may need to negotiate a middle ground.
Considering that the transfer window is closing soon, United must evaluate the benefits of a loan for Sancho. Such an arrangement would relieve United of most, if not all, of Sancho’s salary obligations, in addition to providing a loan fee income. Sancho, who has two years remaining on his contract with a potential one-year extension, did accompany the team to Brighton but was excluded from the matchday roster.
Juventus is actively seeking to enhance its attacking options and is reportedly targeting three wingers. In addition to Sancho, they are close to signing Francisco Conceicao from Porto on a straightforward loan and are pursuing Nico Gonzalez from Fiorentina with a loan that incorporates an obligation to buy.
