Scottie Scheffler has announced his participation in the upcoming AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, marking his return to competitive golf after sustaining a hand injury while preparing a festive meal last month.
Earlier this week, Scheffler expressed optimism regarding his recovery, sharing that while he was eager to return to the sport, he would not rush back into competition unnecessarily.
Last year, Scheffler finished in a tie for sixth at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which was broadcasted live on Sky Sports starting January 30. That event was notably impacted by challenging weather conditions, leading to a reduction of the tournament to 54 holes due to severe wind and rain.
His upcoming appearance will be Scheffler’s first tournament since he clinched victory at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas for the second consecutive year in December.
In addition to his individual success, Scheffler also partnered with Rory McIlroy for a special television match in Las Vegas, where they triumphed against rivals Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in a contest that spanned only 14 holes.
At 28 years old, Scheffler had to refrain from practice during his recovery from surgery to remove glass from his hand. He remarked on the inactivity, stating that it was unusual for him to be unable to work out in the gym.
Due to his injury, Scheffler missed participating in both The Sentry at Kapalua and The American Express last week in California, without providing specifics on when he would fully regain his form for competition.
Scheffler’s Remarkable Year Ahead
Reflecting on his experiences, Scheffler described the past year as one in which he had “lived almost a full lifetime,” celebrating a remarkable season both in his career and personal life.
During this incredible year, the golfer made history by becoming the first player to win The Players Championship, The Masters, and the FedExCup within the same season.
He concluded the Tour Championship with a commanding four-stroke lead, maintaining his position at the top throughout the event, and joining the ranks of players like Tiger Woods to achieve seven or more victories in a single season on the PGA Tour since 2007.
Following his second Masters win in three years, Scheffler faced a legal situation during the PGA Championship but saw the charges dropped shortly after. He subsequently triumphed in two Signature Events: the Memorial Tournament and the Travelers Championship, and went on to secure gold for Team USA at the Paris Olympics, culminating in winning the FedExCup for the first time in his career.
