Hibernian’s Remarkable Surge Secures Top Six Finish
Hibernian’s impressive 3-0 triumph has propelled the team to 47 points, effectively ensuring their presence in the top tier of Scottish football with two games remaining in the season.
This achievement contrasts starkly with their struggles from early November, when David Gray’s squad languished at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table, having secured only one victory in their initial 12 matches.
A remarkable turnaround has transformed the atmosphere in Leith, with Hibernian now positioned just one point above their rivals in third place. After the convincing win against bottom-tier St Johnstone, Gray expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “It was a fantastic day’s work and we fully deserved it.”
The seasoned manager further emphasized the club’s objectives at the start of the season, highlighting the intent to attain at least a top-six finish. “Then you start to look towards European places and if that’s achievable. That’s the target, that’s the aim,” he remarked.
Reflecting on the team’s journey, Gray noted the struggles they faced early on, acknowledging the difficult start that could have derailed their ambitions. However, he also pointed out that their remarkable 15-match unbeaten streak in the league has enabled them to secure a top-six finish well ahead of the season’s conclusion.
Meanwhile, Aberdeen’s recent 4-1 victory over Motherwell has also cemented their place in the top half of the league. Their path to this point has been notably different from that of Hibernian, where they initially amassed 31 points in their first 11 outings, only to face a challenging spell with 14 games without a win.
Despite these ups and downs, manager Jimmy Thelin expressed satisfaction with the current form of his team, which has seen three wins, two draws, and a solitary loss to Celtic in their last six matches. “From the beginning, we’ve had a clear picture for the long term, but we want to arrive in Europe this season,” Thelin stated, reflecting the ambition that drives his side forward.
