Selena Gomez has made a notable return to the top tier of the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, as her latest single “Ojos Tristes,” featuring Benny Blanco and The Marias, has debuted at No. 4. This track reinterprets Jeanette’s classic 1981 ballad “El Muchacho De Los Ojos Tristes,” and marks a significant milestone for Blanco and The Marias as they achieve their first top 10 appearance on the chart during their second outing.

“Ojos Tristes” secured its position at No. 4 on the Hot Latin Songs chart, a ranking derived from a mix of airplay, digital sales, and streaming figures. The song achieved an impressive 8.2 million streams in the U.S. for the tracking week ending March 27, with its performance contributing to a No. 3 start on the Latin Streaming Songs chart. This marks Gomez’s fifth entry into the top 10, and it is a significant achievement for both Blanco and The Marias, as well.

The track “Ojos Tristes” pays homage to Jeanette’s “El Muchacho De Los Ojos Tristes,” a song that, while remaining below chart visibility during its original release, established Jeanette as a prominent artist in the 1970s. Her notable work, “Porque Te Vas,” found some chart success, peaking at No. 25 on Latin Pop Airplay back in 2008.

This bilingual rendition combines nostalgic elements with contemporary production, as Gomez delivers her verses in English while Maria Zardoya of The Marias contributes ethereal harmonies that echo the original’s essence, creating an appealing experience for modern listeners.

The collaboration has proven beneficial for Blanco and The Marias, granting them their initial top 10 success on the Hot Latin Songs chart. Blanco had previously appeared on the chart at No. 22 last December, featured in Myke Towers’ song “Degenere,” while The Marias attained a No. 17 ranking with “Otro Atardecer,” a collaboration with Bad Bunny in 2022.

For Gomez, the release of “Ojos Tristes” marks a return to the top 10, being her first since the collaboration with DJ Snake on “Selfish Love,” which peaked at No. 6 in 2021.

Moreover, “Ojos Tristes” has made waves across various Billboard charts, debuting at No. 59 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. It also appeared at No. 63 on the Billboard Global 200 with a total of 19.5 million streams, and at No. 118 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart, which counted 11.3 million streams from outside the U.S.

Sales have also played an integral role in the song’s top 10 achievement on Hot Latin Songs, with “Ojos Tristes” marking 1,000 downloads, resulting in a No. 1 debut on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart.
