Selena Gomez’s co-stars from Only Murders in the Building are already on the guest list for her wedding to Benny Blanco, but the talented duo may have some surprises in store for the ceremony. During a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Gomez discussed the potential roles that Martin Short and Steve Martin could play on her special day.
When Barrymore inquired about whether she intended to have the seasoned entertainers officiate the wedding, Gomez admitted, “Oh my gosh! I hadn’t even thought about that,” suggesting she was open to the idea. Nonetheless, she had already decided on Short’s contribution to the reception, revealing, “Marty is due to give a speech. I told him he must.”
Gomez jokingly predicted that Martin would also find a way to entertain the guests. She quipped, “Steve will probably pull out his banjo,” adding that she imagined Short would deliver an “epic speech” for the occasion.
In a separate segment, Jimmy Kimmel brought up a humorous moment from a past interview where a clip from the 2025 Golden Globes showed Short examining Gomez’s engagement ring. Reflecting on the moment, she remarked, “He’s twisting it. Taking it off. I wasn’t sure what he was doing; that’s why I look confused. He just wanted to know what was going on. I don’t think he cared. Maybe a little…” This incident sparked Kimmel’s lighthearted suggestion that perhaps Short and Martin could be “ringbearers” at the wedding, to which Gomez responded, “That would be adorable.”
Selena’s Wedding Plans
Gomez publicly shared her engagement to Blanco via Instagram back in December, showcasing the tender moments from the proposal, which included a picnic from Taco Bell, along with close-ups of her dazzling engagement ring. She captioned her post with a heartfelt message: “Forever begins now…”
Despite the excitement surrounding their engagement, the couple is taking their time with wedding preparations. Instead, they are focused on the release of their upcoming collaborative album, I Said I Loved You First, as well as their individual projects. “I’m actually shooting season 5 of Only Murders right now,” Gomez mentioned in an interview with TODAY on March 21. “He has to do some work stuff too. To be honest, I’m just enjoying us in this moment, and yeah, then we’ll get to start the craziness.”
