Clarification Made About Senator-Elect Jim Justice’s Dog Babydog
Following reports that Babydog, the beloved dog of Senator-elect Jim Justice, faced a ban from the Senate floor, Justice’s team has stepped in to clarify the situation. The canine, an unofficial mascot for Justice’s Senate campaign, sparked a considerable amount of media attention with recent headlines.
In a light-hearted commentary, Babydog’s team stated, “Even though I wasn’t in D.C. today, I got the most headlines. However, I hope that we really focus on bringing the things to this nation to fix our problems.”
According to Axios, a query was posed about whether dogs could be present on the Senate floor, leading to misunderstanding. Justice’s office has insisted that the senator-elect never intended to bring Babydog to the Senate floor.
The confusion reportedly originated from a jocular remark made during a recent Senate orientation. One Senate-elect asked about the allowance of children on the Senate floor, revealing that infants up to one year old are permitted as per House rules.
In a humorous follow-up, another senator-elect inquired whether dogs could also be present, to which it was noted that while dogs are allowed on the Capitol grounds and in offices, they are not permitted on the Senate floor.

Babydog has gained substantial recognition, especially after her appearance during the Republican National Convention held in Milwaukee in July 2024. During the event, she was seen in a specially designed chair on stage with then-Governor Jim Justice. “I know that a lot of you want to meet my little buddy,” he remarked, inviting her to join him in front of the audience.
This furry companion has been an integral part of Justice’s life since she was gifted to him by his children during Christmas in 2019, and she remains a beloved presence in West Virginian politics.
