Trump Enthusiastically Welcomed at NCAA Wrestling Championships
President Donald Trump received a warm and enthusiastic welcome during the concluding rounds of the 2024-25 NCAA wrestling championships held on Saturday. The atmosphere in Philadelphia was electrified with chants of “USA! USA!” resonating through the Wells Fargo Center as fans expressed their appreciation.
Senator Markwayne Mullin, a Republican from Oklahoma who engaged with Trump at the event, noted the crowd’s palpable affection and respect for a president who, according to him, exemplifies the spirit of a fighter. “They respect a fighter. That’s the essence of President Trump’s base, and he fit right in with that crowd, just like any wrestler participating,” he stated during a segment on “Fox & Friends Weekend” the following day.
TRUMP RECEIVES RAUCOUS WELCOME AT NCAA WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS: CHAMP IS HERE
As Trump participated in the festivities, he was seen visibly enjoying the crowd’s exuberance, even pumping his fist in response to the cheers.
Accompanying Mullin at the championships were several notable allies of Trump, including tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, Senator Dave McCormick, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, and former WWE executive and Education Secretary Linda McMahon.
During his interaction with Mullin, Trump appeared to be buoyed by the strong reception. “They absolutely love me here, don’t they?” he asked, to which Mullin affirmed the sentiments, explaining, “Sir, they do.” Trump inquired about the reasons behind the enthusiasm, to which Mullin responded, “Every male in this building, as well as many females, have been punched in the face. We’re wrestling fans… they respect a fighter, and they respect you.”
Mullin elaborated on Trump’s appeal, suggesting that he consistently demonstrates his commitment to the American people. He contrasted this with the response President Biden might receive, humorously suggesting that chants would diverge from those heard for Trump. “When President Trump walked in, they were chanting USA because every single day they know he’s up there, fighting for them,” he stated.
This appearance marked Trump’s second visit to the NCAA wrestling championships in three years, following his attendance in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2023. His ongoing involvement showcases a continued connection with the sport and its fanbase, reinforcing the bonds with those who admire his assertive political style.
