Seth Meyers has long moved away from the conventional late-night host’s wardrobe, opting for a more relaxed style. However, amidst Donald Trump’s preparations for a potential second presidential term, Meyers expressed concerns that he might be hosting the show without any clothes at all.
Upon returning to his program after the holiday break on Tuesday night, Meyers reflected on the need to scrap an entire segment of his “A Closer Look” feature, due to the array of outrageous statements made by Trump during a press conference that same day.
Some of Trump’s noteworthy comments included suggesting that NHL legend Wayne Gretzky should enter Canadian politics as Prime Minister, accusing special counsel Jack Smith of “executing” people, and proclaiming his intention to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.”
“My man is in mid-season form already!” Meyers remarked with astonishment, introducing a segment aptly titled, “I Can’t Believe We’re F–king Doing This Again.”
Meyers lamented the content vacuum created by the Biden administration, humorously noting the lack of any significant midday news breaking under their leadership.
“By the way, this déjà vu scenario has happened before, nearly eight years ago, when I had to scrap my script for ‘A Closer Look’ following Trump’s first press conference as president, which was equally absurd. Here we are again! The difference this time? I’ve traded in my suit for something much more casual. At this rate, if things continue on this path, I might soon be hosting the show in just my skin,” he joked.
