A tragic incident occurred on Saturday night at the Lapu Lapu festival in Vancouver, where a driver plowed into a crowd, resulting in several fatalities and numerous injuries.
Vancouver police have yet to provide detailed information about the circumstances of the incident but confirmed that the collision happened at East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street shortly after 8 p.m. PT.
The police have taken the driver into custody as the investigation continues. Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim expressed his shock and sorrow over the “horrific incident” during the Lapu Lapu Day festivities.
“We will work to provide more information as soon as we can, but at this time Vancouver police have confirmed that there are a number of fatalities and multiple injuries,” Sim stated.
The mayor added, “Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time.”
As the situation develops, officials anticipate releasing additional details soon.
