As we move into Sunday, the region faces an increased risk of severe thunderstorms, designated as a level 3 out of 5 for potentially damaging weather. Storm development is anticipated from midday into the afternoon and early evening hours. While there is still some uncertainty regarding the exact timing and potential strength of the storms, conditions may be favorable for strong to severe systems, which pose risks including high winds, large hail, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes. The intensity of the storm system may increase as it moves eastward from St. Louis, but the metro area could still be impacted by severe weather.
Forecast timeline:
Tonight – Saturday midday: Expect scattered showers primarily south of St. Louis, with no severe weather anticipated.
Saturday afternoon – evening: The weather will remain cloudy with cooler temperatures settling into the 60s.
Sunday midday – afternoon: Storms are expected to begin forming, with the potential for strong to severe weather.
Sunday afternoon – early evening: This timeframe will likely see the most severe weather, with risks of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
Sunday evening: Storm systems will gradually move eastward, reducing the risk for the metro area.
While this upcoming system may not be as intense as the severe storms that occurred on March 14, it still holds the potential to produce hazardous conditions. Residents are advised to stay updated as forecasts may shift in the coming days.
