[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Found Season 2 Episode 12 “Missing While Misidentified.”]

The latest episode of Found revisits the initial day of captivity for Sir (played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar) in Gabi’s (Shanola Hampton) basement. This intense setting follows Dhan (Karan Oberoi) as he tracks Sir down for Gabi, who is struggling with the aftermath of her father’s death.

Reflecting on their time filming in the basement, Hampton remarked on the experience with TV Insider, saying, “Mark-Paul, talk about working with me for three days in a row.” To which Gosselaar humorously responded, “I’m on the ground for most of that episode because I’m done carrying Shanola for the past season and a half. I’m literally a broken man on the ground through the entire episode, and she’s standing above me.” This dynamic highlights the shift in power between their characters as the storyline unfolds.

Hampton added, “As you can see, it was not fun at all shooting those episodes. It really was good to be back in the basement. The crew seemed delighted to return to familiar territory since many of them worked on Season 1 and continued into Season 2, giving off a sense of ‘home cooking’.” She expressed enthusiasm about the chemistry with Gosselaar and appreciation for the episode’s script written by Sonay Hoffman, calling it her favorite of the series.

Gosselaar concurred, especially emphasizing the challenges of directing and acting in scenes involving multiple characters and complex staging. He noted, “When you get to the basement, you know that it’s just going to be really simple storytelling of these two actors in the room. It’s going to be heavy, and it’s going to be dark. But there is this comfort that the crew has of knowing that we’re going to have a pretty good time, even amidst the darkness.”

Throughout the episode, flashbacks reveal Gabi beginning to utilize Sir in her investigations, notably concerning the potential discovery of Jamie’s remains, which he ultimately helps confirm are not hers. Sir openly discusses their shared struggles with panic attacks, linking his childhood traumas with Gabi’s current situation. In a pivotal moment, Gabi, impulsively contemplating violence, instead chooses to leverage Sir’s expertise to aid in the search for missing individuals.

In contemporary scenes, Margaret (Kelli Williams) grapples with the return of her son Jamie, who is hesitant to reconnect with the family. Dhan analyzes bus station footage of their reunion, raising questions about Jamie’s true identity. Gabi experiences her own sensibilities about Jamie, especially following her arrest. In another moment, Dhan’s casual actions lead to a potential revelation about Jamie’s identity, adding to the tension surrounding their interactions.

Margaret’s emotional state is precarious as she clings to the hope that the young man she is now facing is indeed her son. Williams elaborated, “She’s so overwhelmed with the idea that he’s home that she’s ignoring her Margaret vision,” hinting at the trauma that could follow if her instincts prove incorrect. The team becomes increasingly cautious around her, knowing that her history of trauma places her on the edge of a potential crisis.
