Sharmila Tagore Reflects on Her Grandchildren’s Bollywood Journey

Renowned actress Sharmila Tagore recently spoke candidly about her grandchildren, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, as they navigate their rising careers in the Indian film industry. Tagore, who has made a significant comeback to Bengali cinema with her film Puratawn, which premiered on April 11, shared her thoughts during an interview with Anandabazar Patrika.com on YouTube.

The veteran star expressed pride in her grandchildren’s progress, stating, “Sara and Ibrahim are doing a wonderful job.” However, she also voiced her frank critique regarding Ibrahim’s debut film, saying, “Ibrahim’s film was not good, but he is quite handsome and has put in a lot of effort. While these opinions are often kept private, I feel it is essential to acknowledge that the film did not meet expectations. Ultimately, the quality of the film is what matters.”

On the other hand, Sharmila had more favorable comments about Sara, commending her hard work and talent. “Sara is a proficient actress. She dedicates herself fully to her roles and has the potential to accomplish even greater things in the future,” she remarked.

In a later interaction with PTI, Tagore hinted that Puratawn might be her last project in Bengali cinema, revealing her love for the medium while acknowledging her health limitations. “I cherish working in Bengali films and have a deep affection for Kolkata, but my current health condition doesn’t allow me to be as physically active as needed for film roles,” she commented.

Moreover, her daughter, Soha Ali Khan, recently shared her own reflections in an interview with Just Too Filmy. She reminisced about their family’s dynamics when Sharmila was the main provider after her father, the esteemed cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, had retired.

Soha noted, “Our environments significantly influence us, and for me, my father was a prominent role model. He was already retired by the time I was born, and at that time, cricket didn’t offer the lucrative opportunities we see today like IPL or endorsements.” She further elaborated on her mother’s pivotal role, stating, “During that period, my mother was the sole financial supporter of our family. She married young and balanced her career and motherhood exceptionally well, continuing to deliver some of her most iconic performances even after having a child.”
