Shatrughan Sinha Reflects on His Support for Sanjay Dutt During His Jail Time
Shatrughan Sinha has recently shared his memories regarding his efforts to assist Sanjay Dutt during a tumultuous period in the latter’s life. While attending the launch of producer Rajan Lall’s biography, Sinha recounted the significant role he and others played in supporting Dutt when he was incarcerated. His close relationship with Dutt’s father, Sunil Dutt, provided a personal impetus for his actions.
During his reflection, Shatrughan Sinha expressed the deep bond he shared with Sunil Dutt, whom he regarded as an elder brother. He nostalgically described evenings spent with Sunil, Rajan Lall, and Shashi Ranjan during the Mumbai riots, where they navigated through the city’s perilous streets. This period coincided with the distressing news of Sanjay Dutt’s imprisonment.
“We were genuinely concerned for him,” Sinha recalled. “How could we help Sunil Dutt’s son, a person so kind and dear to us? What could we do to support them during this painful time?”
Sinha emphasized the fortunate alliance they formed with a prominent figure in Maharashtra, Balasaheb Thackeray, who played a pivotal role in Sanjay Dutt’s legal struggles. He acknowledged Thackeray’s influence in facilitating Dutt’s eventual release and the provisions made during his incarceration. “It would have been wonderful if Sanjay were here today,” Sinha reflected. “When he was released, he came directly to our house after seeking blessings at the Siddhivinayak temple. We then had a heartfelt celebration at Rajan Lall’s home.”
Looking back, Sinha described the twists and turns that followed Dutt’s release, noting their continued efforts to reconnect with him. “Rajan Lall has made several attempts, both in person and on our behalf, but it seems elusive now,” he mentioned, gesturing to the ongoing disconnection with the actor. “Despite the challenges in reaching him, we understand that he may simply be preoccupied with his own life.”
In his concluding remarks, Sinha conveyed his unending fondness for Dutt, highlighting the complexities of life that may keep friends apart but do not diminish the warmth of their sentiments.
