The intrigue surrounding Shedeur Sanders and a prank call during draft day has come to light. Jax Ulbrich, son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, has stepped forward to admit responsibility for the prank, calling it an unfortunate and reckless act.
Jax Ulbrich, a sophomore in college, publicly confessed his misstep in an Instagram post on Sunday.
“On Friday night, I made an enormous mistake. What I did to Shedeur was utterly inexcusable and naive. I sincerely regret taking away from your moment—it was thoughtless and immature. I can’t imagine being on the brink of celebrating such a significant milestone only to have it tarnished by my actions,” Jax wrote.
He concluded his message with a note of gratitude, saying, “Thank you for taking my call earlier today. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me,” while tagging Sanders.
The prank unfolded during the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft, only adding to Shedeur’s disappointment after he had anticipated being selected in the first round the night before.
When the call was made, Shedeur and his family believed that the long wait for a draft pick had finally ended—only to discover it was a prank.
Speculation arose that the prankster might have connections within the NFL, especially since Shedeur had received a new phone for draft night specifically to facilitate communication with teams.
After footage of the call surfaced, Jax was quickly identified, as he was seen next to a friend who assisted in making the call.
The Falcons addressed the situation in a statement, confirming their awareness of the incident and mentioning ongoing discussions with the league office.
Shedeur Sanders, who was eventually picked by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round with the 144th overall selection, has not yet responded publicly to the apology issued by Jax.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
