xAI’s Gas Turbine Usage Sparks Public Hearing in Memphis
An important public hearing has been scheduled to discuss the operations permit for xAI and its ongoing use of gas turbines at its facility in South Memphis.
On Tuesday, the Shelby County Health Department announced a public meeting to address an operating permit for 15 natural gas turbines located at 3231 Paul R. Lowry Road, Memphis.
The public session is set for 5 p.m. on Friday, April 25, at Fairley High School, situated at 4950 Fairley Road.
Onlookers can see construction activities occurring at the xAI facility in Memphis as of March 10, 2025.

Earlier this year, in January, CTC Property LLC, an affiliate of xAI, submitted a request for an operating permit aimed at the long-term use of 15 natural gas turbines at its facility. Following this, on March 31, the Shelby County Commission approved a resolution to hold a public hearing regarding this application.
Members of the community who are interested in providing feedback can do so through the Shelby County Health Department’s online portal.
