Shoojit Sircar Reflects on Nervousness During Piku’s First Day of Shoot
Shoojit Sircar is stepping into a new venture with Abhishek Bachchan in his latest film, I Want To Talk, set to release on November 22. This marks Sircar’s initial collaboration with Abhishek, although he has previously worked with Abhishek’s father, Amitabh Bachchan, on several projects including Shoebite, Piku, Gulabo Sitabo, and Pink.
In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, Sircar shared his admiration for both the legendary actor and his son, highlighting a common thread of decency between the two. While acknowledging the inevitable comparisons, he noted, “They are true gentlemen. Their courteous behavior and hospitality towards the crew are exceptional.”
Sircar commended Abhishek for embodying positive traits learned from his father. He stated, “Abhishek shows great respect to his directors and colleagues, something he clearly inherited from Mr. Bachchan. Both understand the essential elements of filmmaking, including the importance of punctuality. Mr. Bachchan’s remarkable memory for lines has evidently influenced Abhishek in that regard as well.”
Feedback for I Want To Talk has already come from Amitabh Bachchan, who praised the trailer on social media. However, Shoojit expressed his eagerness to hear personal thoughts from the veteran actor, noting, “His opinions mean a lot to me. Despite having worked together on four films, I regard him with profound respect.”
Shoojit’s initial collaboration with Amitabh was on the unreleased film Shoebite, for which he feels immense gratitude toward the veteran actor. He explained, “We are eternally thankful to Mr. Bachchan for believing in us during Shoebite. His willingness to work with me has been a cornerstone of my career.”
After Shoebite, the duo joined forces again for Piku, which has since attained cult status. Reflecting on the first day of filming for Piku, Shoojit recalled, “I cherish that memory with Mr. Bachchan. I found myself choking on the word ‘action’ when addressing him on set. I often recount that day to my friends, remembering how, as a child, I was in awe during his filming of Yaarana in Kolkata.”
Describing his feelings on set, Shoojit said, “To me, he felt like a family member, like our jamai babu (brother-in-law). Like many, I grew up idolizing him as a superstar and never anticipated that one day I would direct him. When I faced him on my very first day of Piku, a flood of memories from my childhood surfaced and left me quite nervous, unsure of what was to come next.”
