Kanye West’s Yeezy.com Removed from Shopify Over Offensive T-Shirt
Kanye West’s online store, Yeezy.com, has been taken down by Shopify after it prominently featured a T-shirt displaying a black swastika, referred to as HH-01. This move comes in the wake of a controversial advertisement that aired during the Super Bowl, promoting the T-shirt.
The 30-second commercial depicted West propped up in a dentist’s chair, where he mentioned investing heavily in the advertisement, humorously stating, “I spent, like, all the money for the commercial on these new teeth.” He urged viewers to visit his website, which initially showcased various items but quickly narrowed its offerings to just the T-shirt adorned with the swastika after the ad aired, as reported by Variety.
However, by Tuesday morning, Yeezy.com was offline, displaying an error message stating, “Something went wrong. This store is unavailable.”
In response to the incident, a Shopify spokesperson emphasized that all merchants are required to adhere to their platform’s guidelines, stating, “This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them from Shopify.”
Criticism from Advocacy Groups
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) expressed strong condemnation of West’s actions, declaring on social media, “As if we needed further proof of Kanye’s antisemitism, he chose to put a single item for sale on his website – a t-shirt emblazoned with a swastika.”
The ADL highlighted the swastika’s historical significance as a symbol associated with Nazi Germany, which continues to evoke fear among those targeted by antisemitism and white supremacy today. They also pointed out that the shirt was labeled with a term that could be interpreted as a reference to Nazi ideology.
Moreover, the organization underscored West’s recent actions, noting his persistent expressions of antisemitism on social media platforms. They criticized the amplification of his messages through the Super Bowl advertisement, which reached a broad audience.
In a related development, West made headlines just a week prior for his appearance at the 2025 Grammy Awards alongside his wife, Bianca Censori, who donned a revealing outfit that drew significant attention on the red carpet. In the ensuing days, West has been vocal on X regarding various controversial subjects, including his identification with extremist ideologies. It was reported that he deactivated his X account shortly after the Super Bowl ad aired.
Milo Yiannopoulos, an associate of West and his wife through a talent management firm, confirmed the deactivation in a post on social media, noting that requests for comments regarding West should be directed to his firm.
