Registration Open for European Space Agency’s Living Planet Symposium 2025

Registrations have officially commenced for the upcoming Living Planet Symposium (LPS), organized by the European Space Agency (ESA). Scheduled to take place from 23 to 27 June 2025 in Vienna, Austria, this symposium is recognized as one of the preeminent conferences dedicated to Earth observation globally.

Taking place every three years, the symposium serves as a significant platform for sharing cutting-edge scientific insights and discussing applications derived from satellite data. This year, the five-day event promises to focus extensively on the shift from mere observation to actionable climate strategies and the attainment of sustainability goals for our planet.

The in-person format of the symposium offers a rare opportunity to network with various professionals from the space industry, including academics, government representatives, and students at the Austria Center Vienna. Notably, there will not be an option for remote participation.

The organization of LPS 2025 is being bolstered by the collaboration of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency and Austria’s Federal Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology.

Registration Deadline: 26 May 2025

REGISTER HERE on the Living Planet Symposium website. The deadline for registration is set for 26 May 2025 at 23:59 CEST.

Themes of Focus: From Observation to Action

This year’s symposium will revolve around six pivotal themes:

  • Earth Science Frontiers: How utilizing Earth observation data enhances our comprehension of the Earth’s interconnected systems.
  • Climate Action and Sustainability Challenges: The role of data in monitoring and addressing environmental and societal issues, thus aiding in impact reduction.
  • Earth Observation Missions: Insight into findings from ESA’s various Earth observation initiatives, including Copernicus, along with national programs.
  • Digital Innovation and Green Solutions: Investigating how digital technologies can facilitate innovative green solutions across markets.
  • Industry Partnerships for New Applications: Collaboration to expand access to resources and accelerate commercialization in the New Space sector.
  • Global Cooperation and Policy Support: The influence of space infrastructures and data in bolstering both European and international bodies.

Commitment to Sustainability and Inclusivity

Living Planet Symposium 2025 is designed with a commitment to sustainability and inclusiveness. Organizers are focused on minimizing the event’s environmental footprint and its influence on the local community, striving to establish a sustainable legacy. Special attention is given to climate responsibility, with specific sustainability goals outlined throughout the planning and execution phases.

In addition, the symposium’s organizers are dedicated to fostering an inclusive atmosphere where participants can connect, exchange ideas, and contribute meaningfully to a collective vision for the future. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are guiding principles that shape every facet of the event’s planning, from speaker selection to accessibility considerations.

As an ISO20121 certified event, attendees are encouraged to travel to Vienna via train whenever feasible. In collaboration with ÖBB, the Austrian Federal Railways, a special discount on train fares to Vienna is available for symposium participants. Click here for further details on this travel offer.
