Sigourney Weaver, celebrated for her iconic roles in science fiction, is set to join the Star Wars universe in the forthcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu. In a recent revelation, she shared an amusing admission regarding her preparation for this new role.

As Disney continues to expand its Star Wars franchise, focusing primarily on television, a new chapter is beginning with the introduction of various films, including the anticipated Starfighter featuring Ryan Gosling.

Before we dive into these new cinematic offerings, Jon Favreau’s upcoming movie will carry on the narrative after the conclusion of The Mandalorian Season 3. Fans can expect to see Pedro Pascal reprise his role as Din Djarin, who will be accompanied by his endearing companion.

In her upcoming role, Weaver will be joining a host of new characters, excitedly discussed during their appearance together on stage at the 2025 Star Wars Celebration.

Sigourney Weaver’s The Mandalorian & Grogu Admission

During her chat with Favreau, Weaver revealed that she had not yet watched The Mandalorian when she was first approached for the role. “When Jon unexpectedly wanted to Zoom with me to discuss The Mandalorian and Grogu, we were both a bit bashful,” she recounted. “I have to admit, I hadn’t seen the show before.”

Despite this initial oversight, Weaver quickly embraced the series after Favreau encouraged her to start watching. “If I had known what it was all about, I would have watched it beforehand,” she stated. “Once he advised me to check it out, I was captivated. It’s impossible not to be drawn in.”

She continued to express her enthusiasm, saying, “The depth of both characters, the setting, and the extraordinary supporting cast were truly inspiring. By our next conversation, I had a much better understanding of it all, and I knew I had to be a part of this.”

Although she was initially unfamiliar with the series, Weaver noted her longstanding appreciation for the Star Wars films. “I’ve always loved being transported to another realm, where significant issues can unfold in a context that isn’t tied to our reality,” she reflected.

She elaborated, stating, “Everyone deserves an escape, which is why I have continually gravitated towards science fiction. It reflects on our future and examines human nature, offering endless possibilities.”

Weaver also revealed intriguing details about her character’s background. “She’s a fighter pilot who emerged from the Rebellion,” she explained. “Now, her mission is to safeguard the New Republic, and she has the insight to enlist a Mandalorian and his companion. I’m looking forward to seeing if they really live up to their reputation.”

The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled for theatrical release on May 22, 2026. Until then, fans can explore the intricate timeline of Star Wars, delve into rankings of their favorite characters, and stay updated on the latest developments surrounding the franchise.
