Simu Liu Shines in Dual Roles: Reality Host and Marvel Superstar
Life is looking bright for Simu Liu as he balances his commitments as the host of the reality competition series “Got to Get Out” and his role in the highly anticipated film “Avengers: Doomsday.”
In a recent conversation with “Extra,” Simu shared his insights about his Hulu series and his surprise at Marvel’s recent announcement regarding the film’s extensive cast.
Reflecting on the casting news, he revealed, “I had no idea who else was joining the film. I was aware I’d be part of it, but it was during the major announcements that I learned about Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart—complete surprises for me.” Such revelations left him astonished and excited.
As the actor known for portraying Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he expressed the multifaceted impact of the casting updates: “Each name mentioned carries deeper significance. I was following these announcements as a fan, but I was also contemplating the chance to collaborate with such esteemed talent—a genuinely amazing opportunity.”
Simu admitted that keeping details about the film under wraps was a challenge, especially when preparing for a promotional circuit. He noted, “When debuting a movie, questions are bound to arise. You have to stick to the official narrative, remain coy, and hope not to reveal any secrets inadvertently.”
He humorously referenced past slip-ups from colleagues, saying, “We’re all aware of the infamous moments from Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo, and none of us want to become that story.”
Excitement for ‘Got to Get Out’
Fortunately for Simu, the revelation about the Marvel film was made public before he kicked off the promotion for “Got to Get Out,” a show that pits reality television veterans against newcomers vying for a grand prize of $1 million.
The lineup for the competition includes notable figures such as Spencer Pratt, Omarosa, Cynthia Bailey, Val Chmerkovskiy, Clare Crawley, and Kim Zolciak-Biermann.
Describing the show’s format, Simu explained, “The contest features 20 participants split evenly between legendary reality TV figures and ordinary people. They will be confined together for ten days with a ticking clock counting up to a million dollars. If none manage to escape within that time, they’ll share the prize. However, as the days progress, contestants receive ‘exit strategies’ via a ticker tape that hints at windows for escape. Whoever exits first takes the accumulated jackpot.”
Liu noted that forming alliances appears to be crucial, stating, “It soon becomes clear that collaborating is essential for success. The spacious house offers numerous points of interest, and participants quickly understand they need partners.”
Initially, Simu believed the rookies had the upper hand, assuming that experienced reality stars might be unfamiliar with escape tactics. However, he was pleasantly surprised by their skills, particularly impressed by Spencer’s innovative ideas. “His genius approaches have led to incredible moments in the show, and I think audiences will recognize that he is far more savvy than he is often depicted,” Liu added.
“Got to Get Out” is set to premiere on April 11 on Hulu, promising a blend of tension and entertainment in this unique competition.
