Snoop Dogg Releases “Last Dance With Mary Jane” Music Video
Snoop Dogg has unveiled his captivating new music video for “Last Dance With Mary Jane,” coinciding perfectly with the 4/20 celebrations. The track features guest artist Jelly Roll and creatively incorporates the legacy of the late Tom Petty, sampling his band’s timeless hit, “Mary Jane’s Last Dance.” The video also showcases appearances by Dr. Dre, who produced the track, as well as animated representations of iconic musicians such as Tupac Shakur and Bob Marley.
This song is part of Snoop’s latest album, Missionary, and serves as a heartfelt tribute to his lifelong affection for cannabis, which he affectionately refers to as “Mary Jane.”
Opening with lines describing his fondest early memories, Snoop reflects on his first encounter with marijuana: “Don’t bother asking me to ever give my lady up/ Was about five years old taking my first puff/ It was love at first light, fell in love the first night.”
Directed by Dave Meyers, the video portrays Snoop enjoying what he perceives as a final celebration with marijuana after receiving troubling news from a doctor. The chorus poignantly echoes, “It’s my last dance with Mary Jane, one more time to kill the pain.” Snoop adds, “Even before the fame, she was my novocaine, you know it ain’t ‘gon change,” underscoring his long-standing relationship with cannabis.
“Last Dance With Mary Jane” offers viewers a surreal exploration of Snoop’s past and a whimsical imagined future. The narrative includes both heartwarming and ethereal moments, such as a musical interlude featuring Petty himself and a fantastical meeting with 2Pac in an afterlife setting, alongside a vibrant performance by Jelly Roll.
On the day of the video release, Snoop humorously engaged with fans by sharing a festive meme that humorously combined 4/20 and Easter Sunday, depicting himself as the Easter Bunny. The meme was shared on X, furthering his playful connection with his audience.
