Soha Ali Khan discusses the challenges of motherhood and her concerns for her daughter in today’s world.
Soha Ali Khan’s highly anticipated sequel, Chhorii 2, is slated to premiere on Prime Video on April 11.
In a recent discussion, Soha reflected on her brother Saif Ali Khan’s recovery following a traumatic knife attack at his residence in Bandra on January 16. While she assured that he is now doing well, Soha shared how the incident deeply unsettled their family. In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, she expressed her anxiety about the world today and her primary concern of keeping her seven-year-old daughter, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu, safe.
Soha noted, “Once you become a parent, quality sleep becomes a rare commodity. There’s always that looming worry—appropriate sleep for her, too little or too much. My own anxiety has heightened, especially being a mother to a girl. We want to strike a balance between protection and freedom without letting fear dictate our parenting. The landscape of parenting today is indeed challenging, especially with social media playing such a significant role.”
As she prepares for the release of Chhorii 2, which addresses significant issues like gender-based violence and female safety, Soha reflected, “From the moment of conception to becoming a widow, the risk for women in India is substantial. Your experience can vary dramatically depending on your family, location, and the socio-cultural mindset surrounding you. Not every part of India aligns with modern ideals.”
Despite the film’s social commentary, Soha clarified that her participation was not solely motivated by its message. She admitted to leading a ‘protected life’ but acknowledged that her travels and experiences in the film industry have exposed her to diverse realities. “Working on films like Chhorii 2 has broadened my perspective, allowing me to empathize with the struggles faced by others,” she explained.
In the horror film, Soha portrays a villainous cult leader, a character that has left her family—comprising Kunal Kemmu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Saba Ali Khan—astonished by her transformation. “After having lived in a somewhat insulated environment, it’s essential to recognize the various realities of life. On the darker side, there are often reasons behind people’s evil actions; nobody is truly born evil, although Nushrratt (Bharuccha), my co-star, may have encountered some exceptions!”
Reflecting on her character’s look in the film, she humorously remarked, “This is what I look like at 8 PM, desperately trying to figure out how to get my daughter to sleep. That’s reality for me most days (laughs).”
Chhorii 2 will be available for streaming on April 11 on Prime Video.
