Date: April 29, 2025
Location: Rome, Italy
Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako expressed confidence in the process, stating, “There is a fraternal and sincere atmosphere, so it is the spirit of responsibility to choose someone who would continue Pope Francis’ work.” He emphasized that the conclave could be concise, declaring, “No, short, short, two or three days.”
Echoing this sentiment, Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chavez remarked, “I have the impression that the conclave will be short, two or three days; this is the feeling we have inside the room.” He noted that logistical preparations have already begun, saying, “The Sistine Chapel is already closed, we are preparing all the logistic details, all that’s left is for people to come and decide.”
As they approached the Vatican gates, the cardinals described the ambiance during the general congregations as both ‘fraternal and sincere.’ They conveyed a collective sense of duty regarding the selection of Pope Francis’s successor. The conclave is scheduled to commence on May 7.
