LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A tragic incident unfolded at a North Las Vegas casino early Thursday morning, leading to the death of Na’onche Osborne, a 23-year-old and the son of former Nevada state senator Pat Spearman.
Osborne was reportedly shot around 4:30 a.m. at the Aliante Casino and Hotel, a fact confirmed by the Clark County coroner’s office following an investigation that began the same day. This marks a painful chapter for Pat Spearman, who had previously identified Osborne as her son in the context of past legal troubles, including an arrest in 2022 related to a different shooting incident.
Spearman, a member of the Democratic Party who served multiple terms in the Nevada Legislature, was unsuccessful in her bid for the mayoral position in North Las Vegas during the last election cycle. She had been a prominent figure since first being elected to the Senate in 2012, advocating for various community issues.
In the October 2022 incident, officers arrested Osborne after he shot his cousin, David Spearman, in the family’s home. Notably, a previous shooting involving him had gone unreported until it resurfaced during the police inquiry into the more recent incident.
In a statement issued by a family spokesperson, they expressed profound sorrow over the loss: “It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Senator Spearman’s beloved son. This is an unimaginable loss for the senator and their family, and they are heartbroken. During this difficult time, they ask for privacy as they grieve and support one another. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and condolences from friends, colleagues, and the community.”
In a swift turn of events, the accused shooter, Aerion Warmsley, 19, allegedly fled the scene after the shooting. Police learned that his subsequent actions included a string of carjackings in the Las Vegas area, which led to a high-speed chase that reached impressive speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Authorities confirmed he was eventually apprehended and now faces multiple charges, including open murder and robbery. He is currently in custody at the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center without the option of bail.
Following the tragedy at the casino, North Las Vegas police provided limited information about the incident and subsequently issued updates regarding the situation, which garnered significant attention in local news.
In a previous court ruling related to the 2022 shooting, a judge sentenced Osborne to a year in county jail and required him to pay restitution.
