The interfaith union of Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal has drawn significant attention since their wedding last year. In a recent interview, Sonakshi shed light on their relationship, clarifying that religion was not a pivotal aspect of their bond and they never pressured each other regarding conversion.
During her conversation with Hauterrfly, Sonakshi remarked, “We focused on our love rather than our religious backgrounds. Our commitment to each other was the priority. He doesn’t impose his faith on me, nor do I on him. Discussions about religion were simply not part of our dynamic. Instead, we celebrate and acknowledge our different cultures. Each of us has our own traditions, and there’s mutual respect for one another’s heritage.”
She elaborated on their choice to marry under the Special Marriage Act, which accommodates couples from diverse religious backgrounds without necessitating a change in faith. Sonakshi explained, “By choosing the Special Marriage Act, we ensured that I could remain a Hindu while he remained a Muslim. Our love was the primary reason for getting married, and conversion was never a consideration.”
Sonakshi and Zaheer, who have been together for seven years, tied the knot on June 23, 2023, a date they cherish as it marks both their wedding and the day they began their relationship in 2017. They celebrated their nuptials with an intimate gathering of loved ones. In an emotional announcement, Sonakshi expressed, “On this same date, seven years ago, we recognized a profound love in each other’s eyes and vowed to cherish it. Today, after overcoming various challenges together, we stand as husband and wife, blessed by our families and faiths.”
On the professional front, Sonakshi’s recent project was “Kakuda,” a film featuring Riteish Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem, which debuted on ZEE5. She is set to appear in “Nikita Roy and The Book of Darkness,” sharing the screen with actors Paresh Rawal and Suhail Nayyar.
