Sonakshi Sinha Discusses Her Strict Upbringing and Late-Night Restrictions

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha recently shared insights into her disciplined upbringing, indicating that she was subject to a curfew at home until she turned 32 years old.

In a revealing conversation, Sonakshi recounted the amusing yet strict measures her mother enacted to monitor her late-night activities and the impact those guidelines had on her personal growth throughout her life.

Reflecting on her upbringing, Sonakshi disclosed to Hautterfly, “I was expected home by 1:30 AM even after my career had begun. This rule held until I was 32. Zaheer had the toughest time with this; whenever I broke the curfew, it was due to him, and consequently, I faced the music.”

She elaborated on the logistics that made it nearly impossible to evade the curfew. “I spent my childhood in a place I jokingly referred to as Ramayana, located on the tenth floor, while my parents resided on the fifth. My parents’ telephone operator, Mr. Jha, was exceptionally diligent; the moment I drove in, he would notify my parents, stating, ‘Baby has arrived.’ I even attempted to persuade my assistant to refrain from letting him know, but my efforts were futile.”

Sonakshi also recounted how her mother would always follow up with questions about her night out the following day. “If Jha didn’t call, I resorted to lying. This is a typical scenario in most households. My parents would begin calling around midnight, inquiring about my whereabouts. My mother would express her disapproval, framing her concerns around my father, asking, ‘What will he think?’ or even threatening to inform him. Interestingly, my dad is quite laid-back and has never reprimanded me.”

In her discussion, Sonakshi acknowledged her mother’s commitment to instilling strong values, which has also encouraged a dialogue about generational differences. “My mom aimed to raise me in a manner that discouraged backtalk, a reflection of her upbringing. Yet, roles have reversed to an extent, as there are many modern insights I now share with her in return.”

On the professional front, Sonakshi has an array of web series on the horizon and is set to feature in the upcoming South Indian film, Hari Hara Veera Mallu.
