Sophia Floersch Joins HMD Motorsports for Indy NXT 2025 Season
In an exciting development for motorsports enthusiasts, 24-year-old Sophia Floersch from Grünwald, Germany, is set to compete in the Indy NXT series with HMD Motorsports for the 2025 season. This transition marks her entry into the United States racing scene after a successful tenure in various junior formula categories across Europe.
Floersch recently made headlines with her first experience in Indy NXT machinery during a test session at Barber Motorsports Park, where she completed 92 laps and demonstrated noticeable improvement in her performance. “I’m excited about joining HMD Motorsports and coming to the United States to race in the Indy NXT by Firestone Series,” Floersch stated. “My aspiration has always been to race with the best of the best. I have worked diligently with my team to reach this goal and venture into the biggest racing market in the world.”

With her induction into HMD Motorsports, Floersch joins another prominent female driver, Hailie Deegan, who has previously competed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The duo aims to replicate the success of Jamie Chadwick, who recently made history by becoming the first woman to win an Indy NXT race on a road or street circuit. Chadwick’s impressive victory at Road America established her as a key figure in the series, being only the third female winner overall in Indy NXT, alongside Pippa Mann and Ana Beatriz.
Floersch expressed her enthusiasm about racing in the U.S., noting, “The United States is more open to embracing a female racer, and this makes me very excited and optimistic about the future. The sport here feels genuine, and I appreciate the warm welcome I’ve received. HMD Motorsports has a palpable energy that excites me as we approach the season opener in March at St. Pete.”
HMD Motorsports, now confirming seven drivers for the upcoming 14-race Indy NXT schedule, is keen on advancing Floersch’s career goals. The organization aims to leverage her talent and potential to create significant opportunities within the NTT IndyCar Series. “We are excited to have Sophia confirmed for Indy NXT in 2025,” said Mike Maurini, HMD Team President. “She has a great team behind her, and we believe she can make an impact in North America.”
Floersch’s background includes two previous seasons in Formula 3, with her top finish being seventh at Spa-Francorchamps in 2023. Her racing experience also encompasses the DTM series and the FIA World Endurance Championship. Notably, she participated in the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing ninth in the LMP2 class as part of an all-female team.
Looking Ahead
As the 2025 racing season approaches, the anticipation surrounding Floersch’s participation in Indy NXT is building. Her journey from European circuits to the heart of American motorsport will be closely watched as fans and analysts alike are eager to see how she will fare in this competitive environment.
