Spiritualized has announced two additional U.S. performances as part of their tour commemorating the 30th anniversary of their acclaimed second album, Pure Phase. Fans can look forward to a full album rendition at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on September 25, followed by a performance at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on September 28.
In a recent statement, band leader J Spaceman expressed his admiration for Pure Phase, calling it potentially his favorite among his works. He highlighted the album’s unique construction, which challenges conventional music-making, providing a sense of satisfaction that comes from pushing boundaries. J Spaceman pointed out that each side of the album features distinct mixes, and upon revisiting the masters, he was thrilled to find that it still retains its remarkable sound, distinct from other music in its genre. The creative influences for the album included notable composers such as Michael Nyman, Steve Reich, and John Adams, along with elements of rock and gospel. He summed up the album’s essence as evoking the sensation of “driving as fast as you can in torrential rain.”
