Spotify announced on Monday that it disbursed over $100 million to podcast creators globally during the first quarter of 2025.
This substantial figure encompasses revenues shared with creators across various formats and agreements, featuring prominent figures like Joe Rogan, Alex Cooper, and Theo Von.
Rogan, known for “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Cooper from “Call Her Daddy,” and Von of “This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von” were listed among the most popular podcasts on Spotify in 2024.
While Rogan and Cooper’s exclusive contracts with Spotify have concluded, they continue to generate significant content for the platform. Rogan had previously signed a new agreement with Spotify valued at up to $250 million last year, which included revenue-sharing terms as well as rights to post on YouTube. Meanwhile, Cooper entered a new partnership with SiriusXM in August.
Even after their exclusivity has ended, podcasts still appear on Spotify and are eligible for the Spotify Partner Program, which was launched in January across the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia.
This program enables creators to earn from advertisements monetized by Spotify that play during their episodes, in addition to revenue from dynamic ads viewed by Premium subscribers on videos.
In a competitive comparison, Patreon reported that it allocated more than $472 million to podcasters through over 6.7 million paid memberships in 2024.
When looking at platforms like YouTube, payouts are significantly larger but cover a broader spectrum beyond just podcasts. YouTube disclosed that it compensated creators with $70 billion from 2021 to 2024, with amounts increasing annually, as stated by YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.
Spotify is set to announce its first-quarter earnings on Tuesday.
